Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s first big update in about a month released overnight. Patch 1.13 added a crossbow, new loadout slots and made a few fixes. Shortly after downloading the patch, players ran into a strange error when launching the game. “Your data is corrupt or didn’t download properly,” the error message reads. “You must reset your rank and unlocks to continue.” The prompt offered players Yes and No choices, but many were afraid to do anything so as not to risk causing more problems. Infinity Ward initially advised players not to select either option and just close the game.

Since then, the developer has been investigating the cause and already pushed a fix, though it doesn’t take care of all problems just yet. Infinity Ward explained that players who picked Yes on that error message will still see that their stats are reset. The developer clarified, however, that progression hasn’t actually been lost. This goes for overall account progression, weapon levels, unlocks, and the Battle Pass. Those who closed the game and didn’t pick either option should now resume from where they left off. Until a proper fix has been deployed, players who picked Yes can still play the game and make progress, but with a big caveat: stats recorded after the patch’s release may not stick, meaning they’ll be rolled back to their pre-patch values. The initial fix released overnight also had a different side effect that impacts all players. Any custom loadouts created and saved in the new slots will be reset. This will happen once for all players when they next launch the game, so it’s unavoidable. We’ll update you when the full fix goes out.
