Now that the Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War update is live, Activision is warning – via the official Call of Duty blog, no less – that players with a base 500GB PS4 may not be able to store the entirety of modern Call of Duty games on their hard drives. “Those who own a standard PlayStation 4 with a default hard drive of 500 GB may need to make room if they have the full versions of Modern Warfare/Warzone and Black Ops Cold War with all modes and packs installed,” says the blog. “Should you have both games installed and have kept up to date with updates, you may need to delete some unused Game Content to have a successful download and install of the Warzone patch tonight.” Basically, then, if you want Black Ops, Modern Warfare and Warzone all installed on a PS4, and all updated to their most recent content packs… you’re out of luck. Modern Warfare and Warzone take up north of 170GB on PS4, with Black Ops gobbling up another 100GB. The PS4 also keeps 100GB aside for its OS, and because of the way it likes to install updates in big chunks with extra space to Tetris it all in, it makes sense why Activision is communicating this problem. Of course, modern Call of Duty games allow you to download the games in chunks – you can get Zombies and multiplayer whilst leaving Story off your hardware, for example. That helps alleviate the problem a little bit, but as we’ve noted before, the size of these games is getting problematic (and that’s without the size-increasing bugs).
