Capcom has said that digital sales make up around 80% of its game revenue. The Japanese publisher revealed this impressive ratio in response to an investor question [PDF]. Capcom says its target is for digital to reach 90% of game sales, and the company will continue to promote its digital strategy going forward in order to reach that target. The company, however, is aware that some players will always prefer to own a physical copy, which is what it believes that 10% accounts for. Part of Capcom’s plan in maximising digital revenue also includes supporting its games for longer periods of time through content updates, and in making its games available to the widest possible audience worldwide. Capcom, of course, is already doing this with Monster Hunter World, with the game having just received a big update. The success of World was itself partially owed to it being many players’ first Monster Hunter game, despite the series’ many past entries.
