When the development studio Fntastic announced the game in January 2021, a trademark for The Day Before was available. However, in May 2021, an individual from South Korea filed for the trademark, four months after the game’s announcement. Filed in the US by the individual, after a standard period of assessment and investigation by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), the trademark was granted in November 2022. On January 19, the studio received a complaint from the trademark holder....

The Necromancer is a newly added class to Diablo Immortal, one of the six that will be available on launch. This returning class was first introduced in Diablo 2, and allows players to control the forces of the dead and use them to ravage enemies in their path. Then there’s the Cycle of Strife update. In this update, players will be able to come together to form a Dark House and battle against other player-made Dark Houses in the Rite of Exile....

Those lucky enough to own next-gen machines will be able to play The Division 2 at a higher resolution and frame rate soon. That’s going by Ubisoft Massive community developer Johan Lindholm, who said on Twitter that Title Update 12.1 for the military shooter will be dropping on February 2. Part of this update is 4K 60 frames-per-second support for “next-gen consoles.” There’s no further information aside from that, but safe to assume that PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X owners will be benefitting from this up; there’s no word on the improvements that those with Xbox Series S machines will be seeing....

The Division 2’s latest free weekend trial has kicked off on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. As is standard, the trial makes the entire game available to play for free, with your progress carrying over should you choose to buy the full game. The free weekend is live until early morning on Monday, March 2. You don’t need PlayStation Plus to play it on PS4, but you will need Xbox Live Gold on Xbox One....

Classic Final Fantasy has a bit of a ‘version problem’. When it comes to FF1 through FF6, there’s no real definitive release you can point to and tell players ‘that’s the one to play’. The new Pixel Remaster releases don’t solve this problem, but they’re certainly some of the easiest versions to recommend. The games have been tweaked and adjusted in generally smart ways. There’s new sprite work that while potentially divisive for the 16-bit era titles is a perfect fit and undeniable improvement over the NES versions - and in particular, I think the world looks fantastic....

During the show, you can expect the usual awards to be handed out, first-look world premieres, and new game announcements. Rumours of the remake have been floating around for months. Earlier today, ResetEra user Modiz posted a link to the PlayStation Direct Store, which seemingly went live ahead of time. The listing reads, “Experience the emotional storytelling and unforgettable characters of Joel and Ellie in The Last of Us, winner of over 200 Game of the Year awards and now rebuilt for PlayStation 5,” and describes exactly how the already brilliant game has been mastered further....

The Medium is coming to PC and Xbox Series X/S on December 10. In the game, you will find yourself playing as Marianne, a medium haunted by visions. She can interact with two worlds: the real, and the spirit world. These visions have led her to an abandoned hotel in Krakow, the site of a tragedy. Because she is a medium, she can interact with the spirit world in order to solve the mysteries of the hotel....

In its eighth year, the PC Gaming Show will feature a mix of world premiere announcements, new trailers, and interviews with developers. This year’s show will be hosted by PC Gamer’s 2010 “Gamer of the Year,” Sean ‘Day’ Plott, and Mica Burton, an actress, digital content creator, live event presenter, and professional cosplayer. Last year’s PC Gaming Show attracted more than 36 million viewers, and this year’s event will feature even more games, with over 45 titles included....

Not only is a battle pass tab viewable from leaked screenshots, but also in-game currency and an in-game store. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, an open world action adventure game with online co-op, had previously not announced any live service features in an official capacity....

Bungie has announced that the upgraded Vault of Glass raid from the original Destiny, will be available in Destiny 2 on May 22. The remastered raid will open its doors at 10am PT, 1pm ET, 6pm UK. The date was revealed in Bungie’s weekly blog, where the developer also said that the raid’s main story is not changing. With that said, Bungie did make a number of changes, but the goal was to “keep the feeling similar to how you remember....

While a lot of scenes worked with the polygonal nightmare graphics of the original PlayStation game, I can’t help but wonder how well they’ll translate to characters who look human, who are fully voiced, who have hands instead of stumps at the end of their tiny arms. The Epic Games Store Mega Sale kicked off last week, dropping the prices of many games on the store. Epic also brought back the $10 coupon promo, which gives everyone a free $10 discount on any game at $14.99 or above. Anytime you use that coupon to buy something, you get another, and another for every time you buy something, which effectively means anything above $15 is $10 cheaper. Unfortunately, this got at least one developer to drop the price of its game just enough to take it out of the list of eligible games....

I adore The Witcher 3 so much I have the colouring book, the novels, the cosplay calendar, and am considering getting audio tapes so I can Witcher in the bath. Just like how Geralt’s story is told through many mediums, the game itself takes on a variety of forms: it’s as challenging as it is thoughtful, as colourful as it is grim. It’s a fantasy story, but somehow it feels deeply personal as well....

News of the bug was brought to everyone’s attention by Twitter user Daniel Moore, who contacted Aspyr Media regarding the issue [thanks, IGN]. According to Aspyr, it is currently investigating workarounds for the issue but there isn’t an ETA at present. An upcoming patch will address the issue, said the company. The bug appears after landing on Onderon during the Basilisk Crash cutscene. It seems players cannot move past this to continue playing the game....

It sure looks like Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 is coming to some new consoles. That’s going by some, um, Twitter nonsense from corporate brand accounts. Tony Hawk tweeted at the Crash Bandicoot account asking whether last year’s remasters of the classic skating games could come to new platforms. This follows word that Crash 4 was coming to PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X/S. “If this works I owe @CrashBandicoot a customized skateboard,” the pro skater continued....

EA revealed in new SEC filings [PDF] that Ultimate Team made $1.62 billion over the course of fiscal year 2021, which ended in March. This amounted to a whopping 29% of EA’s entire net revenue that year ($5.6B). In fact, spending money on Ultimate Team is EA’s most popular live service, noting that a “substantial portion” of that $1.62 billion was made in FIFA Ultimate Team. As noted by Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad, EA’s Ultimate Team revenue has been steadily growing every fiscal year since 2015, when it amounted to just $587 million....
