Now the massive multiplayer shooter is back with one of the biggest updates the game has ever seen in Escalation. “Camaraderie, teamplay, and scale are the bedrock principles PlanetSide 2 is built upon, and the new Escalation game update aims to reinforce all three of them,” says the Steam post. “This massive game update introduces new content for players of all levels, creates a deeper experience for our most dedicated player communities, and adds strategic depth and communal goals to PlanetSide 2 gameplay....

As well as that, anyone who finds themselves having fun across the Caribbean-inspired state of Yara will also be able to pick up the game with up to 60% off. This promotion will be available until August 17, and should you choose to buy the game, all of your progress from the free weekend will be carried over. Players can install the game on consoles, or via Epic, Stadia, and Ubisoft Connect now, with access being revoked on 8 August at 7pm BST / 2pm ET / 11am PT....

The company said the main focus will be on Japanese publishers, but there will be updates from other developers as well. The 20-minute broadcast will feature new reveals and updates for both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 titles, and it will kick off at 2pm PT, 5pm ET, 10pm UK. You will be able to watch it via Twitch and YouTube. Sony said not to expect updates on PlayStation VR2 titles or hardware in this broadcast....

The news comes from a string of tweets posted by Wario64, the first of which states that several delisted Xbox 360 games have been relisted for Xbox One. Check out the tweets below, which speculate on why this resurgence of previously unavailable games has happened, and feature details of the games confirmed to have been relisted so far. “I’m guessing Microsoft is working on some backend BC [backwards compatibility] stuff in preparation for Xbox Series X but not sure if they intended to relist some delisted BC games,” wrote Wario64....

Koch Media’s first unveiling of the day wasn’t a new game, but a publishing label. Prime Matter is the company’s new premium games banner. Prime Matter is a name that refers to an object that isn’t substantially defined. In more practical terms, Koch wants the brand to be known for diverse, high-quality games from a wide range of different influences, team sizes and design approaches. At a preview event VG247 attended, Koch showed off a diverse portfolio of projects - all of which will arrive under the Prime Matter banner....

Like a lot of other Roblox games, the codes given out for Project XL will give free rewards to players, such as free XP and mastery buffs. The codes are often announced on Twitter and Discord by the game’s developers, Aspect Productions, and while the codes don’t have a release schedule they usually get released when the game hits certain milestones. This page will be updated regularly to include any new codes coming out, or any that have recently expired....

But here’s the problem: Sony refuses to make it easy for us to play those titles despite having launched an upgraded version of its PS Plus subscription service earlier this year. “It’ll be packed with classics,” the platform holder said. Well, the Premium tier doesn’t even have Tekken 3, so let me press square to doubt. God of War diehards will surely have no problems as they’ve been hoarding all and each of Kratos’ adventures over the years, but newcomers or casual fans probably never gave Chains of Olympus or Ghost of Sparta a fair chance....

Sony didn’t say when the rest of us will get their hands on the new update, other than “later this year.” This is one of the bigger firmware updates for PS5. The headline feature is support for 1440p resolutions, something that’s invaluable for players using the console on a PC monitor - where that resolution is more popular. 1440p is a feature Xbox Series X has supported since launch, and many called on Sony to enable the option on PS5....

As per a new article on Wired, Sony has recorded an 81% increase in playtime on the new-generation console, compared to what the PS4 enjoyed in the same time period. Granted, there are slightly different circumstances this time around: there’s a global pandemic keeping people indoors, and backwards compatibility means that you can play your entire PS4 library (more or less) on the new hardware, too. This increase in playtime is also linked to higher game sales compared to the same post-launch period with the PS4, too....

But Sony also noted that it’s planning to release a Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) feature for the PlayStation 5 “in the coming months.” “Gameplay in many PS5 titles feels smoother as scenes render instantly, graphics look crisper, and input lag is reduced,” Sony explains in a post over on the PlayStation blog. “Previously released PS5 games can be fully optimized for VRR through a game patch and future games may include VRR support at launch....

Sony has confirmed all the media apps and video streaming services PS5 owners will be able to use on day one. The platform holder is selling a media remote, of course, with dedicated buttons for a number of them already on it. At launch, everyone will have access to Netflix, Disney+, Spotify, and Apple TV (also coming to PS4 soon). Twitch, and YouTube will, of course, both be there as well, and they both support streaming directly from the console as well as traditional viewing....

Sony announced today PUBG and Street Fighter 5 for PlayStation Plus members will be available for download starting September 1. The games will be made available through the service until October 5. Meanwhile, you still have time to download August’s offerings until the 31st. The August offerings are Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Krafton has big plans for PUBG in 2021 and beyond. In a development update, the studio outlined the broader strokes of the new content coming to the game over the coming months. This year, Krafton intends to introduce two new big maps to PUBG. The game’s third 8x8 km map, codenamed Tiger, will arrive later this year. In recent years, PUBG moved away from the large 8x8 km maps that defined its early days, but Tiger represents a return to this style for the studio....

Last week, it was reported that Resident Evil Village’s implementation of both anti-piracy DRM Denuvo and Capcom’s own DRM layer resulted in the game’s constant stuttering on PC. After it was proven beyond any reasonable doubt that DRM was indeed to blame for the performance issues, Capcom pledged to update the game to address the concerns of PC players that would have got a better game if they resorted to piracy....

Housemarque, the Finnish studio behind Resogun, Nex Machine, Alienation and other arcade-like games, announced earlier this year that it’s ramping up production on its “biggest and most ambitious title yet”. At the time, the developer announced that it had shelved in-development battle royale shooter Stormdivers, which the studio knew had little chance of succeeding in that busy space. The new project was said to be published by a third-party partner, but Housemarque didn’t say who that was at the time....

Returnal, the upcoming rogue-lite PS5 shooter from Housemarque, is one week away. Pretty much everything there is to know about it has been revealed, including a set of technical details. The game’s official PlayStation page is incredibly detailed, and delves deep into Returnal’s structure, style of action, narrative segments, and even the dangers you’ll run into over the course of the game. Developer Housemarque also confirmed that Returnal does use ray tracing in its lighting....

In Riders Republic, from the makers of Steep, you will compete in PvP races with around 50 other players using bikes, skis, snowboards, wingsuit, and a rocket wingsuit. The game features an open world centered around American national parks including Bryce Canyon, Yosemite Valley, and Mammoth Mountain. You can even squad up with to compete in various multiplayer modes such as downhill races, and team vs team competitions. Riders Republic will release worldwide on February 25 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Stadia and Windows PC, exclusively on both the Epic Games Store and the Ubisoft Store....
